In 2008 our 6-acre depot & head office was subject to a compulsory purchase order (CPO) by Reading Borough Council to make way for the redevelopment of junction 11 on the M4 corridor.
Despite the enormous challenge of relocating our business and limited time available to us, we were able to acquire our current headquarters on Acre Road in Reading.
The acquisition was the easy part! We then had to make our new site, formerly a 65,000 sq. ft manufacturing warehouse, fit for the purpose of a large transport hub.
Our warehouse underwent significant construction work to accommodate over 50 vehicles. This gave us the ability to mobilise or park any vehicle independently, without the need to move another vehicle. In addition, the works gave the warehouse sufficient ventilation, a task that was assigned ‘high priority’ before we moved in.
The site also underwent extensive ground works to ensure our cleaning chemicals and vehicle waste was channelled into the correct drainage channels. Once this was completed, we constructed purpose built Vehicle Cleaning Bays with the latest in high pressure cleaning technology and high power compressor vacuums to ensure that our vehicles are always clean and presentable.
Unfortunately, the site was unoccupied for 4 years prior to our acquisition. Consequently our 11,000 sq. ft of offices had been vandalised with over 120 panes broken. Once they had all been replaced, our new site was ready to be occupied.
In 2013 we decided to redevelop the interior of our office to provide spacious, comfortable offices and workstation for our office staff and better rest facilities for our driving staff. We constructed a purpose-built traffic centre to manage our daily vehicle movements. We constructed a large general office for our administration and sales team, with further self-contained offices for other staff and a large board room. We also decided to construct a purpose-built training facility to deliver regular training to our staff. It was first used to deliver training to our entire workforce, enabling them to obtain a Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
In addition to the refurbishment of the offices, we also invested in better staff welfare facilities for our driving staff with purpose-built staff rest room and refreshment facilities. We constructed a driver reporting room where staff could have access to computers for route planning and research on their designated venues, fully equipped with tables, chairs and assigned lockers.
Despite the struggle we experienced during our relocation, and the on-going works that we feel necessary to re-establish a quality working environment, we are extremely content in our new premises and very proud to welcome visitors to see our quality in depth.
